My son in law and daughter’s thirty-something apartment
You may have wondered why I have posted pictures of my stepdaughter, Marissa, and her husband Manu Bastien’s (whose photos grace many of these pages because of his generosity in sharing his vision) apartment. I’ve discovered that many assimilated Mexican-American teens and young adults are proudly proclaiming their roots in their dress, home, music and attitude. This might give anyone interested some ideas.
It is the reason that I created Zarela Casa® which evolved from my desire to celebrate the colorful traditions and rich cultural heritage of Mexican Americans. The design vision for Zarela Casa® comes from my own personal collection of handmade textiles and authentic, often playful Mexican arts and crafts that I use everyday for casual family use or elegant entertaining. The resulting collections werecolorful, unique, sophisticated and stylish and easily adapt to a modern lifestyle. The look is a translation, not a recreation, of authentic Mexican design. The product line appeals to the consumer who appreciates the beauty of culturally-rich crafts and design.
Once again, I was a little ahead of my time and we only have some beautiful blankets by Biederlack now but I get so many letters from you that I might give it another go once the recession passes. Next, I’ll be putting up some pictures of my house and of my stepson’s for more Mexican-inspired decoration ideas.
“I’ve been working towards this moment all of my life. I am fulfilling my dreams by capturing my vision and creating affordable objects of great style and remarkable quality that I’m proud to put my name on,” says Zarela Martínez.
“Zarela Martínez is a glamorous and stylish woman who grew up living between Mexico and the United States. Her multi-faceted background gives her a unique perspective of life on both sides of the border. She also has an uncanny ability to understand what people will respond to when it comes to lifestyle and gracious entertaining.”
