The highlight of my first trip to Mexico City when I was a teenager was seeing the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico at Bellas Artes, the mostly art-deco theater with the splendid Tiffany curtain.  I was enthralled but that was many years ago and when I saw it two years ago I must admit I was underwhelmed with by the road troupe and the choice of dances.  But it is still worth seeing and they will

Muralism without Walls: Rivera, Orozco, and Siqueiros in the United States, 1927-1940 by Anna  Indych-L�pez (University of Pittsburgh Press)

By considering the visual construction of the Mexican Revolution, 1930s exhibition culture, and portable frescoes, Muralism without Walls investigates how U.S. perceptions of Mexican cultural identity shaped the muralists’ creative processes and politics. The exhibition will also explore the aesthetic and social histories of the murals themselves.
