Want to get away from this freezing cold?  Get on the plane and go to my next-Oaxaca nominee, Michoacan and see the Monarch butterflies.

I’ve sadly never felt the silky, fluttering sensation of being covered in monarch butterflies as they arrive in the State of Michoacan and the State of Mexico to rest in the newly declared UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and sanctuaries for their trip up North for the summer.

But that is number one on my list of recommendations for memorable trips for this time of year and last year ninety-four year old Budd Schulberg, author of On the Waterfront, A Face in the Crowd, The Disenchanted and many other memorable books and his wife Betsy took my advise and fell in love with Michoacan.

There is much to love in Michoacan. The stately city of Morelia, magical Lake Patzcuaro and its Riviera , the marvelous arts and crafts, delicious foods and wonderful accommodations. Read more about it in my travel section that I am in the process of revamping or in the links I’ve provided below…
