Sept 25 & 26 Zapotec Cooking Class and Dinner at Zarela’s with Zoila Mendoza
On Saturday, September 25th Zoila will be giving a cooking class of Zapotec food including segueza, a wonderful corn stew, pepian with chicken, and the tamales. It will be hands on and costs 100.00. The class starts at 10:30 amd includes a late lunch or merienda is included. The class is limited to 10 people so sign up and pay on PayPal.
Zoila wants to reach as many people as she can to promote Oaxaca, her weaving and most especially the food. She is my muse and teacher of Valley Zapotec food and you will have a chance to taste it.

We will set up a communal table downstairs and hope that everyone is there on time because the food will be served family-style and if you are late, you might miss out on something
On arrival
6:00 Stand Up cocktail with 2 or 3 passed hors de’ouvre f
6:45 Sit down to a three course meal.
1st course – Tamales de Amarillo
2nd course- Serguez
3rd course- Pepian
Dessert: Ante de Almendra (likely)
Agua Fresca – Fruit Ade non-alcoholic. Includes one drink on arrival and a tasting of Scorpion mezcal.
I am very proud to announce the debut of my daughter Marissa as a photographer. If you have been following this page you know that her husband Manu Bastien is an excellent photographer and he has kindly allowed me to use his images to adorn this page. Now the happy couple will jointly exhibit their photographs of Teotitlan del VAlle, Zoila’s hometown, at this dinner.
