Mother’s Day 2013

Violeta's card

Mother’s Day celebrations started early this year because my son Rodrigo took me to lunch yesterday to Kin Shop (www.kinshopnyc.com)  where I had been to and loved recently,  We ordered the duck larb that was delicious but too spicy even for me so, if you go, keep that in mind and have them adjust the seasoning to your taste.  We followed that with miang of smoked trout which had both a wonderful flavor and texture. The stir fry of rice flakes was also sensational.

After that I went to the Main New York Public Library to see the disappointingly small exhibition of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca’s work during his time in New York City. I had gone to the extraordinary one on Jack Kerouac’s work and expected it to be something like that.

Another friend/mentee treated me to dinner at Casa Mono where I had my first soft shell crab of the season and it was black from being marinated in squid ink before frying. It was delicious as were the roasted beets and the fideo with clams.
