Food is Art: August 7 Sue Torres of Suenos Restaurant takes you on a tour of the greenmarket followed by cooking class

Food is Art is The Mexican Cultural Institute of New York first is first culinary program, Food is Art, a series of cooking classes, lectures, and other activities designed to commemorate the bicentennial year of Mexican independence. It has been immensely successful since the beginning and we are fulfilling our mission to make our culture known and understood.

I’ve known Sue Torres since she was taking her baby steps into the Mexican kitchen. I feel proud that she always names me as one of her greatest influences. Our style of food is very different but her passion for learning is very much like mine. Over the years she has become an expert on Mexican ingredients so who best to take to a tour of the Greenmarket to help you identify herbs that you have probably been reading about: papaloquelite ( a pungent herb  sometimes used in  salads), pipicha (the same family), epazote (stinkweek  which is most commonly used in mushroom , squash blossom or huitlacoche dishes), some growers noe even have hoja santa. Some of these growers ork on Fridays but Sue can get them for you to see and work with and she has an exciting lesson plan all worked out for you.
